Leussink partners with, Demmeler Corporation (Germany) to provide high-quality, tailored modular fixturing solutions, Tomelleri Engineering (Italy) to provide world-leading portable metrology solutions, and US based firm ALM Positioners to provide a range of engineered positioners that allow for 360° welding of oversized components safely and ergonomically.
Leussink’s ‘think solve engineer’ motto is part of our core values and helms our partnership with customers. For example, a large steel manufacturer based on the east coast of Australia, approached Leussink to problem solve why their cast-iron impellers, designed to circulate saltwater through their plant to cool equipment, were consistently experiencing reduced Mean Time Between Failure. Lacking any existing designs or moulds for the impeller, coupled with the complexity and tight timeframe for delivery, the challenges for Leussink were numerous.
In order to troubleshoot and understand the problem, Leussink employed its Tomelleri Portable Metrology solution, which resulted in the part being reverse engineered through 3D modelling to replicate its working environment. This led Leussink to discovering several design issues, one of which was that only one of the impeller’s five blades were operating efficiently. Leussink then recommended a solution to craft an impeller from a single piece of stainless steel providing an alternative part that was built stronger, lasted longer and was far more efficient than the OEM design.
Leussink also has extensive experience in providing high-quality, tailored manufacturing solutions for businesses and industries where accuracy and precision are top priorities. A Western Australian shipbuilder, defence prime contractor and maritime technology business identified inadequacies and inefficiencies in their pipe spool production processes and operations.
Working in collaboration with the customer, the team at Leussink designed and created a Demmeler modular fixturing solution that would meet Austal’s objectives. With the modular set up of the Demmeler table system, the customer no longer needed to break the pipes down into small sections. The versatile layout of the table system allowed the customer to work on larger sections of pipe at a time, which greatly increased accuracy and turnaround time.
